Janja Lula da Silva’s Bold Remarks Spark Online Clash with Billionaire Elon Musk Ahead of G20 Summit In Brazil
Brazil’s First Lady, Janja Lula da Silva, made headlines during a G20 social event on Saturday with a bold jab at tech billionaire Elon Musk. Addressing the need for stricter social media regulations to combat misinformation, she didn’t mince words when a ship’s horn interrupted her speech.
“I think it’s Elon Musk,” she quipped, before adding, “I’m not afraid of you. Fuck you, Elon Musk.”
The remark quickly went viral, prompting Musk, the owner of social platform X (formerly Twitter), to respond online. He shared a laughing emoji graphic and later predicted political consequences for her husband, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, tweeting,
“They are going to lose the next election.”
This fiery exchange comes as Brazil intensifies efforts to curb the spread of fake news and hate speech on social media platforms. Earlier this year, X faced a month-long suspension in Brazil after failing to comply with local regulations, including appointing a legal representative and blocking accounts accused of spreading harmful content.
The First Lady’s comments were made during an event ahead of the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, set for Monday and Tuesday, where global leaders will discuss pressing issues, including digital governance.
