Cocaine Stash Found in Bananas Shipment at Santo Domingo Port; 10 Arrested in Historic Bust Worth $250 Million, Marking Largest Seizure in Dominican Republic’s History
SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – In a groundbreaking operation, Dominican authorities have confiscated nearly 9.5 tons of cocaine, setting a new record for the country. The drugs, worth an estimated $250 million, were concealed within a banana shipment at the Caucedo port in the capital, Santo Domingo.

The shipment, which originated from Guatemala and was headed for Belgium, was intercepted by the Dominican Republic’s Anti-Drug Agency. Carlos Devers, the agency’s spokesperson, confirmed that ten individuals have been arrested in connection with the massive seizure.

So far this year, authorities have confiscated nearly 47 tons of drugs, continuing their fight against drug trafficking in the region. This latest bust surpasses the previous record set in 2006 when more than 5,680 pounds (2,580 kilograms) of cocaine were found at the same port.
The Dominican Republic remains a key transit hub for illicit drugs, as traffickers attempt to route their shipments through the Caribbean nation to international markets.
