Trump Targets Transgender Rights, Promises Tough Stance on Immigration and Foreign Policy, and Declares a ‘Golden Age’ for America in Fiery Post-Election Speech
PHOENIX, ARIZONA — President-elect Donald Trump has pledged sweeping action against LGBTQ rights, promising to halt what he calls “transgender lunacy” on the first day of his administration.
Speaking at a conservative youth event in Phoenix on Sunday, Trump vowed to sign executive orders banning gender-affirming care for minors, removing transgender individuals from the military, and eliminating discussions of gender identity in schools.
“I will end child sexual mutilation, get transgender out of the military, and out of our schools,”
Trump told attendees at the AmericaFest conference. He also declared it would become official U.S. policy to recognize only two genders: MALE and FEMALE.
Trump further emphasized his stance on gender by promising to
“keep men out of women’s sports.”
Broader Conservative Agenda
The event, held in one of the battleground states Trump carried in the November election, provided a platform for the president-elect to outline his broader conservative agenda.
He promised tough measures on immigration and crime, while also revisiting controversial foreign policy issues. Trump pledged to restore U.S. control over the Panama Canal, citing unfair treatment by Panama in managing the waterway, which is crucial to international commerce.
“The Panamanians haven’t treated us fairly,” Trump said, criticizing what he described as “ridiculous” fees for canal use. He added that if treaty principles aren’t upheld, the U.S. would demand the canal’s immediate return.
Transgender Issues in Focus
Transgender rights have become a flashpoint in U.S. politics, with Republican-led states introducing bans on gender-affirming care and books addressing LGBTQ topics, while Democratic states expand protections.
Last week, Congress added fuel to the debate by approving a defense budget provision blocking some gender-affirming care for the children of service members.
A ‘Golden Age’ Vision for America
In a sweeping speech that marked a victory lap after his 2024 election win, Trump painted a bleak picture of the Biden administration, describing it as four years of “failure, incompetence, and national decline.”
“On January 20, we will inaugurate a new era of peace, prosperity, and national greatness,” he said.
He also made ambitious promises to end the war in Ukraine, stabilize the Middle East, and prevent World War III. While offering no specifics on his plans, Trump declared,
“The golden age of America is upon us.”
As his second term approaches, Trump’s statements signal a hard-right shift on domestic and foreign policy, setting the stage for contentious battles ahead.
