Pope Francis has announced that Carlo Acutis, a tech-savvy Italian teenager who used his computer skills to promote the Catholic faith, will become the first millennial saint. Pope Francis revealed that Acutis, dubbed “God’s Influencer,” will be canonized during the weekend of April 25-27, coinciding with the Jubilee for Adolescents in Rome.
Acutis, born in London and raised in Milan, passed away at 15 from leukemia in 2006. Despite his young age, he managed websites for his parish and a Vatican academy, earning recognition for his dedication to spreading Christianity through digital platforms.
While the exact date of the canonization is yet to be confirmed, the ceremony will be a highlight of the Catholic Church’s Holy Year events, which begin in December.
Another Young Role Model to Be Canonized
Pope Francis also announced plans to canonize Pier Giorgio Frassati, a young Italian philanthropist who died of polio in the 1920s. Known for his compassion and service to the needy, Frassati’s sainthood ceremony is set for the weekend of July 28 to August 3.
Vatican to Address Children’s Rights in February
Additionally, the pope shared plans to host an international meeting on children’s rights on February 3. The event will bring together experts from around the world to discuss critical issues affecting children globally.
These announcements highlight the Church’s focus on celebrating young role models and addressing contemporary global challenges.
