A devastating plane crash occurred in São Paulo state, Brazil, claiming the lives of all 62 people on board.
The twin-engine turboprop aircraft, operated by Voepass airline, was en route from Cascavel in Paraná to São Paulo city’s main airport when it crashed into the town of Vinhedo. The flight carried 58 passengers and four crew members.
Dramatic footage circulating on social media captured the plane spiraling and descending vertically before crashing into a residential building. Unfortunately, local authorities have confirmed there were no survivors. Emergency services, including police and fire units, are on the scene, and nearby hospitals have been put on high alert.
Images broadcasted by Brazil’s GloboNews network revealed a large, fiery wreckage engulfing a residential area. Flightradar24, a flight tracking website, noted that the aircraft was built in 2010 and departed Cascavel at 11:56 AM local time (14:56 GMT), with its last signal recorded approximately 90 minutes later.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expressed his condolences by observing a minute of silence during a public event. He shared on social media,
“Very sad. All my solidarity to the families and friends of the victims.”
