Former President Donald Trump has been released from a local medical facility and returned to his home in New Jersey after surviving an assassination attempt during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
According to the Trump campaign, the former president was “fine” despite being shot in the ear. He described the incident as a “bullet ripping through skin,” according to a report by the BBC. Trump emerged from the attack with a bloodied face but was promptly checked out at a nearby hospital.
Donald Trump Jr. informed ABC News that his father is “in good spirits” and remains under medical observation. The campaign confirmed that he is still scheduled to fly to Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention.
The suspected shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was shot dead by the Secret Service at the scene. One spectator was killed, and two others were critically injured during the attack.
A witness reported seeing a man with a rifle crawling on a roof before the shots were fired and tried to alert police.
