Referee Faces UEFA and Serie A Suspension After Alleged Threat to Kill Player During Kuwait SC vs Al-Arabi Match
Italian referee Fabio Maresca has been suspended from officiating UEFA Champions League matches following accusations of threatening a player.
The incident reportedly occurred during a heated exchange between Maresca and Kuwaiti player Khaled Al Murshed during a clash between Kuwait SC and Al-Arabi. According to sources, Maresca allegedly told the player he would “kill” him after a physical collision on the field.
Al-Arabi board member Adnan Abdul brought the claim to light, prompting swift action from football authorities. Maresca now faces further disciplinary measures, including a potential one-month suspension from refereeing in Italy’s Serie A.
Initially scheduled to serve as the fourth official in PSV’s 1-1 draw against Sporting CP on Tuesday, Maresca was replaced by fellow Italian referee Daniele Doveri. Marco Guida ultimately officiated the match, with Ciro Carbone and Giorgio Peretti as assistants.
