Former vice president and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has arrived Washington DC, USA to honour an invitation by the US government and Nigerians living in D.C metropolis and the business community.
Atiku confirmed the news with a post on his Facebook page this evening after rumours of his visit to the USA hit the internet.
Atiku is expected to address Nigerians living in the USA at the Chamber of Commerce on Friday, from 2:30pm to 4pm local time.
In December 2018, Atiku was issued with a US visa for the first time in 13 years. He was alleged to have a row with the US authorities linked to an FBI investigation into a bribery scandal which allegedly linked Atiku in a bribery deal with William Jefferson, former US congressman, in 2004.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has repeatedly said he was running away from investigations by the US authorities.
Adams Oshiomhole, the national chairman of the APC, had said Atiku could not travel everywhere, asking Nigerians to elect President Muhammadu Buhari whom he said could go everywhere.
“We have a president whose integrity cannot be faulted anywhere in the world, but the PDP has a presidential candidate who can only travel to Dubai,” Oshiomhole had said.
Before Atiku confirmed the news with posts on his social media pages, the Embassy of Nigeria in Washington, DC, said it was not yet sure if former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar would be visiting the United States any moment soon.

This visit to the USA by Atiku seals a can of allegations that he is wanted by the FBI. It also leaves a big score as it signals a silent US support for his presidential ambition.
