A staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who was assigned to Ikwere LGA of Rivers State, Mrs. Mary Imawuya, has narrated how officers of the Nigerian army invaded the state’s INEC collation centre, and held her hostage in a bid to seize the results.
In a video that emerged online, Mrs Imawuya narrates the sordid experience she and her colleagues underwent in the hands of the military in Rivers state.
She stated that the army took them hostage and destroyed available electoral materials making it impossible for results to be counted after voting had taken place.
The army has been accused of fermenting violence on election day across the state specifically in Akuku Toru local government area where over 15 persons were shot dead on election day.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Council in Rivers State has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) and security agencies, particularly the 6 Division, Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt, of plots to cause crisis and disrupt the general elections in the State.
The army has also accused the state government of attempting to sway some of its officers with bribe in order to subjugate the electoral process.
The Nigerian army paraded 8 suspects arrested while posing as election officials to disrupt the presidential election in Rivers state.
While parading the suspect at 6 division of the Nigerian army, Port Harcourt, army spokesperson, Colonel Sagir Musa, said the suspects posed as staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission and tampered with electoral materials.
He said the suspects confessed to be working for the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike.
Parading the suspects before journalist, the army spokesperson said they have on phone record conversation between the governor and the suspects.
