Though his contract runs until the end of June, it remains uncertain whether De Bruyne will feature in City’s squad for the FIFA Club World Cup, scheduled from June 14 to July 13.
Manchester – Manchester City’s midfield maestro Kevin De Bruyne has officially announced that he will part ways with the club at the conclusion of the current season.
The 33-year-old Belgian, who arrived at City from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg in 2015, has enjoyed a glittering decade-long spell with the Premier League giants. During his time at the Etihad Stadium, De Bruyne has amassed an impressive 14 major honours, including six Premier League titles and a historic UEFA Champions League triumph in 2023.
In an emotional message shared on his social media accounts on Friday, De Bruyne expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the club, its supporters, and the city that embraced him.
“This isn’t easy to write, but as footballers, we all know this moment comes eventually. That moment is now – and I wanted you to hear it from me first,” he wrote. “Football brought me here in pursuit of a dream, and I never imagined how much this journey would transform my life. This city, this club, and its incredible people gave me everything. And in return, I gave everything I had. The best part? We won it all.”
Widely regarded as one of the finest playmakers of his generation, De Bruyne has played a pivotal role in Manchester City’s transformation into a dominant force in English and European football. He was named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year in both the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 seasons and currently ranks second on the Premier League’s all-time assist chart with 118 to his name.
Though his contract runs until the end of June, it remains uncertain whether De Bruyne will feature in City’s squad for the FIFA Club World Cup, scheduled from June 14 to July 13.
“Every story has an ending, and for me, this chapter has undoubtedly been the most unforgettable,” he added. “Let’s savour these final moments together.”
