Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara commends Stanley Nwabali for Outstanding Performance at AFCON 2023
In recognition of his exceptional performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire, the Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara hosted Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali on Friday.
Governor Fubara announced a N20 million reward for Nwabali and revealed plans to honor him with the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State.
Governor Fubara praised Rivers-born Nwabali for his outstanding goalkeeping skills during the recently concluded AFCON, stating that his performance, alongside other patriots, has brought pride to Nigeria. Additionally, the governor gifted N30 million to the Super Eagles’ crew present during the ceremony.
Expressing his congratulations, Governor Fubara remarked, “I want to join the great and wonderful people of Rivers State to congratulate you, our brother Stanley Nwabali, and our wonderful team. Today, you have brought a national trophy.”
In a related development, Governor Fubara awarded the Rivers Hoopers Basketball Team N50 million for emerging as champions in the Louis Edem National League competition.
Governor Fubara emphasized the importance of encouraging and supporting athletes, affirming, “If we have not encouraged you in a way that motivated you, you won’t be where you are. So, it is part of purposeful governance and administrative efficiency. So, I want to thank you and assure you that we will continue to do our best.”
Nwabali, born in Egbema Rivers State started his playing career with Go Round FC, a club in Omoku, the headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA of Rivers State.
Nwabali was part of the super eagles team that finished second in the just concluded African Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
Nwabali’s stellar performance in tournament earned him the hearts of Nigerians with his followership on his social media handles increasing rapidly.
Nwabali is currently under contract with Chippa United, a South African based club.
