Lagos Rally: Machetes Wielding Thugs Attack Obi Supporters INEC Postpones Governorship and Assembly Elections to March 18

Some supporters of Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate, were on Saturday attacked by thugs in Lagos state during a rally held at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS).

The attackers were said to have invaded the venue of the rallies attacking attendees with weapons, destroying properties and injuring a few persons.

A victim, Mr Chidozie who spoke to REPORT AFRIQUE International claimed that they were attacked by machetes wielding thugs allegedly sponsored by the APC.

” I saw them. They were APC thugs because they ere chanting Asiwaju. They came with machetes and stones, confronted us from all corners, smashing our windshields and injuring some persons. Though, I sustained no injuries, my windshield was smashed.”

The incident was confirmed by the police spokesperson in the state, Benjamin Hundeyin, via his verified Twitter handle.

He said that the attack was reported by the party’s ward chairman in Jakande at the Ilasan police division.

“Four injured persons have been given medical attention,” he tweeted.

“DPO Ilasan has commenced preliminary investigations while SCID is to fully take over investigations.

“The injured and other witnesses are assisting the Police with relevant information that would aid the apprehension and prosecution of the attackers.”

Mr Hundeyin condemned the attack. He said security operatives had been stationed at the venue since Friday to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

“The regrettable attack happened at about 15km away from the rally venue. As earlier stated, the SCID will take over investigations towards apprehending and prosecuting the attackers,” he said.

The rally was attended by thousands of Obi supporters who blocked the highways while moving to the venue of the rally.

Mr Peter Obi has been tipped to lead in the election scheduled for the 25th of February, 2023 by several polls conducted by both local and international institutions.
