Governor Seyi Makinde has swiftly responded, deploying first responders and various agencies within Oyo State to conduct thorough search and rescue operations.
The scene is bustling with earth-moving equipment, ambulances, emergency lights, and heightened security measures. Wounded individuals are being treated and transported to both public and private hospitals in Ibadan, with medical personnel on standby to offer crucial assistance. Governor Makinde personally visited the University College Hospital (UCH) to console and check on some of the injured.
The count stands at 77 injured victims at the moment, the majority of whom have been treated and discharged, alongside 2 reported fatalities.
The government has pledged to cover all medical bills for the victims and provide temporary accommodation for those displaced, ensuring support for rebuilding shattered lives.
Preliminary investigations by security agencies point to illegal miners in one of the affected houses storing explosive devices, leading to the tragic blast. Governor Makinde assures that those responsible will be held accountable as investigations continue.
