Nabeeha Sisters' Release: Police Lied, We Paid Ransom to Secure their release - Family

An uncle to the kidnapped Nabeeha sisters in Abuja has informed the BBC that a ransom was paid to their abductors to secure their release, contrary to claims by the Nigerian police.

The sisters were abducted with their father from their home in Abuja earlier this month, along with another sister who was later killed. The Kidnappers have demanded for a N100m ransom for their release.

This is contrary to police claims that the sisters were rescued by officers of the Nigeria police force.

On Sunday, police said they had “successfully rescued the victims”, reuniting them with relatives.

Sheriff Al-Kadriyar, the girls’ uncle, refuted this saying the family went to collect them after a ransom was paid.

“There’s nothing like rescue on this matter, we paid ransom – even though I can’t disclose how much for security reasons,” he told BBC Yoruba.

The spat of kidnappings in the Abuja environs has risen in recent times, causing the National Assembly to summon the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom WIke.
