President Tinubu Honors Super Eagles for AFCON Silver Medal, Donates flats and parcel of lands

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has honoured the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, with national awards, parcel of lands and flats for their efforts in securing the silver medal in the just concluded AFCON competition.

In a reception held at the State House in Abuja, Tinubu commended the Super Eagles of Nigeria for their outstanding performance at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.

The President emphasized the team’s unity, determination, and resilience throughout the tournament, stating that their display showcased the strength of diversity.

Addressing the players, President Tinubu expressed pride in their remarkable journey, from facing initial doubts to reaching the finals. He praised their sportsmanship, resilience, and team spirit, which he described as epitomizing the values of AFCON.

“I am very proud of you,” President Tinubu remarked, announcing national honors and generous rewards for each member of the team, including a flat and a plot of land. He also pledged continued investment in sports and youth development, underscoring his commitment to promoting the Nigerian Professional Football League and growing local sports infrastructure.

Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, applauded the President’s dedication to sports development and recognized the absence of crises during the competition, attributing it to the government’s support for the team.

Vice-Captain William Troost-Ekong expressed gratitude for the President’s support and promised to strive for even greater success, aiming to secure the gold medal in future competitions.

The reception marked a moment of celebration and recognition for the Super Eagles, highlighting their achievements and the government’s commitment to fostering excellence in Nigerian sports.

Some of the Super Eagles players faced cyber bullying from Nigerians following their defeat to Ivory Coast in the finals. Notable amongst them is Alex Iwobi who was heavily criticised on the social media after the loss.
