The Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into ten individuals believed to be involved in illegal petroleum activities.

These suspects were apprehended aboard the MT Queen Hansal ship, which was found carrying 100 metric tonnes of petroleum products without the appropriate license.
The arrests were made by the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base Ibaka, Akwa Ibom State, and the suspects, along with the seized petroleum products, were handed over to the EFCC for further action.
Captain Uche Aneke, speaking on behalf of the Nigerian Navy, emphasized their commitment to combatting oil theft, stating, “The vessel MT Queen Hansal was involved in suspicious activities along Exxon Mobil oil field.”
Deputy Superintendent DSE Ayuba Zira of the EFCC expressed gratitude to the Navy for their cooperation and vowed to conduct a thorough investigation. “We want to assure the public that the EFCC is going to investigate this conclusively and everyone found culpable will face justice,” he affirmed.
The EFCC reiterated its commitment to collaborating with the Navy to eradicate illegal activities in the oil industry and waterways of Akwa Ibom State.
