The airport, previously named after the late Abubakar Imam by the FG, underwent a significant makeover and will now be known as the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport.

State Commissioner for Information, Binta Mamman, made the announcement during a media briefing at the Government House in Minna, revealing preparations for President Tinubu’s visit to inaugurate the airport and witness the unveiling of mechanized farming implements.

Originally an FG project, the remodelling of the airport was taken over by the state government for expedited completion due to delays.

Mamman emphasized that the airport’s upgrade will provide an alternative to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, given its proximity to the nation’s capital.

The renaming decision was attributed to President Tinubu’s support for the state. Aminu Takuma, representing the Commissioner for Industry, Trade, and Investment, explained that the renaming was within the FG’s prerogative, as they had initially named the airport.

Additionally, state-of-the-art agricultural equipment procured by the government to enhance food security will be inaugurated. These include tractors, power tillers, planters, and harvesters, symbolizing the state’s commitment to agricultural development.

Commissioner for Agriculture, Musa Salihu, expressed optimism that with these initiatives, Niger State would become Nigeria’s agricultural hub under the leadership of Governor Mohammed Bago.
