The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, over allegations of abusing the Nigerian currency, spraying naira notes, and currency mutilation.
Bobrisky, a figure known for his controversial presence, was apprehended in Lagos on Wednesday night and is currently held at the EFCC’s Lagos Command.
Confirming the arrest, EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale stated that Bobrisky’s detention was in connection to the abuse of naira notes, which is a serious offence under Nigerian law.
Oyewale emphasized the EFCC’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the national currency and stated that Bobrisky would face legal proceedings soon.
Bobrisky’s arrest comes amidst a series of controversies surrounding the social media personality in recent weeks. Known for his flamboyant lifestyle and online presence, Bobrisky has often courted controversy, but this arrest marks a serious legal entanglement for the figure.
Bobrisky was recently awarded the title of “most-dressed female” at an event in Nigeria organized by Nollywood actress Eniola Ajao. However, due to the backlash it caused in the country, Ajao apologized to Nigerians and referred to her decision as a mistake.
