The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested the presiding Pastor of CAC Freedom City Prophetic and Deliverance Ministry, Ilorin, Prophet Adeniyi James, on charges of defrauding a church member of N3,980,000.
The victim, Oluwole Babarinsa, alleged in a petition to the Commission that Prophet James claimed during a church event in 2021 to have had a revelation about his impending trip abroad.
As per the petitioner, the Pastor and he agreed to discuss further arrangements for the supposed trip after Prophet James mentioned having a contact in Lagos who could assist with relocating to Canada, albeit at a total cost of N1.7 million for facilitation and N2.5 million for travel expenses.
To raise the required funds, the petitioner reportedly sold some of his possessions and acquired loans, amassing the total amount of N3,980,000, which he handed over to the prophet for the alleged relocation process.
However, after an extended period of waiting without any progress, the petitioner grew suspicious and demanded a refund from the cleric to no avail.
Efforts to retrieve the funds proved futile, leading to the involvement of the EFCC.
The suspect, Prophet Adeniyi James, will face legal proceedings pending the conclusion of investigations, as stated by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewake.
