President Bola Tinubu has extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and citizens of Iran following the tragic death of President Ebrahim Raisi, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and other officials in a helicopter crash.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the devastating incident. He lauded President Raisi as a dedicated leader committed to Iran’s development and extended his sympathies to the grieving families.
President Tinubu also prayed for the continued peace, stability, and prosperity of Iran. On behalf of the Nigerian government and its people, he assured the Islamic Republic of Nigeria’s support and prayers during this period of mourning.
President Raisi’s death occurred on Monday when his helicopter crashed in a mountainous area. He was traveling with Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, who also perished in the accident.
Rescue teams had been searching the area since Sunday afternoon after the helicopter went missing. On the morning of Monday, relief workers found the helicopter, and state television confirmed the president’s death. “The servant of the Iranian nation(president), Ayatollah Ebrahim Raisi, has achieved the greatest level of martyrdom while serving the people,” state television reported, as well as Mehr news agency also confirming his death.
