The Office of the Head of Service has suspended Ambassador Ibrahim Adamu Lamuwa, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, over allegations of sexual harassment.
Lamuwa was requested to step down and has been replaced by Benaoyagha Okoyen, the former Nigerian Ambassador to Cuba, as acting head.
According to sources, the suspension follows a petition by a married employee, Mrs. Simisola Fajemirokun Ajayi, who alleged that Lamuwa had a history of harassment and created a hostile work environment.
The petition, signed by Femi Falana (SAN), urged the minister to investigate and take disciplinary action.
The allegations include inappropriate behavior, unwanted advances, and intimidation. The ministry’s foreign affairs minister, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, wrote to the Head of Service, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, officially complaining about the allegations and attached a copy of the petition.
The suspension is pending an investigation, and if found guilty, Lamuwa may face dismissal. The move aims to address the allegations and prevent future incidents, ensuring a safe work environment for all employees.
