A 40-year-old woman, Lydia Aji, has been arrested for allegedly killing her husband, Aji Makinta, with an axe in Kautikari village, Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State.
The incident reportedly occurred on July 4, 2024, following a heated argument between the couple.
The Borno State Commissioner of Police, Yusufu Lawal, represented by the Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Kenneth, confirmed the arrest. According to Lawal, the dispute arose over the alleged theft of a goat by their 13-year-old daughter, Rachael. The husband, Aji Makinta, died instantly from the attack.
Lawal stated, “On the 4th of July, 2024, one Bulama Mulikabu, a resident of Kautikari village, reported at Chibok police station that on the same date, Lydia Aji and her husband, Aji Makinta, had a violent altercation which resulted in Lydia striking her husband on the head with an axe, leading to his immediate death.”
Further investigation revealed that the argument escalated when the deceased husband demanded that his wife and daughter leave the house following the theft. The case remains under investigation.
