A devastating incident occurred early Thursday morning when a vehicle carrying Nigerian soldiers struck an explosive device in the Mugunu area of Maiduguri, resulting in the death of seven soldiers.

A devastating incident occurred early Thursday morning when a vehicle carrying Nigerian soldiers struck an explosive device in the Mugunu area of Maiduguri, resulting in the death of seven soldiers.

According to reports, the soldiers were responding to a distress call regarding a Boko Haram attack on a neighboring community. Their vehicle hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) believed to have been planted by the terrorist group along the Gamboru Ngala-Maiduguri Road.

A military source confirmed that the soldiers were part of a convoy deployed to assist the community under attack. The source stated that the first and second vehicles passed without incident, but the third vehicle struck the IED, killing all but one soldier on board.

Distressing videos and images show soldiers recovering and reassembling the dismembered remains of their comrades. The remains of the deceased soldiers are being collected and identified prior to notifying their families.

The identities of the deceased have not been fully disclosed at the time of this report.
