Six Nigerian Soldiers Dismissed for Fleeing During Boko Haram Attack in Borno

Six Nigerian soldiers have been dismissed from service for allegedly fleeing from the scene of a Boko Haram attack in Damboa, Borno State, according to military sources. The incident occurred during Operation Lafiya Dole, the counterinsurgency operation in the North-East.

According to SaharaReporters, over 10 soldiers were killed during the attack, with the six dismissed soldiers being accused of withdrawing from the war front. Those affected are PTE OLANIYI EMMANUEL, PTE MASA’UDU ADAMU, PTE ABDUL AZEE SALEH, PTE MOHAMMED MOHAMMED, PTE ADAH TOYE, and PTE HASSAN ABUBAKAR.

However, one of the sources close to the incident has disputed the punishment meted out on his colleagues, arguing that they left the battlefield after running out of ammunition during the fight with the terrorists. He claimed that sufficient arms and ammunition were not provided for them to engage effectively with Boko Haram.

The source also attributed the death of those killed to poor firepower and inadequate equipment to combat the insurgents. He lamented that Nigerian soldiers often complain about being under-equipped to face Boko Haram insurgents, making it challenging to mount an effective defense.

The incident highlights the ongoing struggles faced by Nigerian soldiers in their battle against Boko Haram, with many calling for better equipment and training to enhance their chances of success. The Nigerian Army has yet to confirm or acknowledge casualties in the attack, leaving questions unanswered about the true extent of the damage.
