The Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, Ireti Kingibe, has made it clear that she is willing to work with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, but only if he apologizes for his recent comments directed at her.
The Minister’s outburst came after Kingibe questioned his activities in the territory, including the poor state of schools and hospitals. Wike responded by challenging Kingibe to name a single bill she had sponsored to improve education and healthcare in the region. He also sarcastically suggested that she should “hang on a transformer” if she was displeased with his progress.
However, Kingibe has refused to let the issue die down, insisting that Wike must first apologize for his insulting remarks. In an interview with Channels Television, she emphasized that she is willing to put aside their differences and work together if the Minister shows remorse for his actions.
“I am willing to do everything to work with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, but only if he apologizes first,” Kingibe said. “Once he does that, it’s all over. We can start fresh. But until then, everyone should stay in their lane.”
Kingibe also took issue with Wike’s tone and language, stating that as someone older than him, he should have treated her with more respect. “He doesn’t understand the concept of the FCT,” she added. “If he did, it would be nothing personal. Governance doesn’t translate into friendship.”
The controversy has sparked debate about the level of decorum expected from public officials and the need for them to maintain professional relationships despite political differences.
