Nigerians Rally Behind Protester Whose Son Dreams of Becoming a Programmer, Raise N1.8 Million

A Nigerian protester, Ogwu Benjamin Chijioke, has received an overwhelming response from the public after his story of struggling to support his 13-year-old son’s dreams of becoming a programmer went viral. Chijioke, who joined the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests in Lagos State on Thursday, was seen riding a bicycle to the Lekki Toll Gate area while sharing his struggles with Channels Television.

In an emotional interview, Chijioke expressed his concerns about not being able to provide the necessary resources for his son’s education, including data and tuition fees. He stated that his son is already a proficient programmer at 13 and can create games, but he cannot afford to support his education. The distraught father declared that he would rather die on the streets than watch his son’s future go to waste.

The video of (the protester) Chijioke’s impassioned plea quickly went viral on social media, with many Nigerians moved by his determination to secure a better future for his son. Social media influencer Morris Monye shared the video and called on his followers to support Chijioke’s cause. “You can feel the passion in his soul,” Monye wrote. “He’s lost hope that life will be good for him but has not lost hope for his son. This is why he is protesting.”

In response to the widespread support, Monye revealed that N1.8 million was needed to make Chijioke’s dream a reality. Just 24 hours after the crowdfunding campaign was launched, the target amount was successfully reached, with Nigerians rallying behind the determined father and his son.

The outpouring of support for Chijioke serves as a testament to the resilience and determination of Nigerians who are willing to fight for their children’s futures despite the challenges faced in the country. The story also highlights the impact of social media in mobilizing public support for individual causes and promoting positive change in society.
