D’Tigress Make History: Nigeria’s Female Basketball Team Clinches First-Ever Olympics Quarter-Final Berth

Nigeria’s D’Tigress beat Canada to qualify for quarter-final
Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have made history by securing their first-ever Olympic quarter-final spot after defeating Canada 79-70 in a thrilling match on Sunday.

The African team, led by Ezinne Kalu’s impressive 21 points, bounced back from a slow start to outmaneuver their North American opponents. Despite losing the second and fourth quarters by narrow margins, 23-19 and 24-19 respectively, D’Tigress‘ dominant 23-5 performance in the third quarter proved to be the decisive factor.

The first quarter was evenly matched, with both teams scoring 18 points each. However, Nigeria’s rebounding prowess, led by Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah’s 7 rebounds, and Promise Amukamara’s 6 assists, ultimately gave them the edge they needed.

With this win, D’Tigress have secured two victories from their three group matches, scoring a total of 208 points while conceding 207. The team’s impressive performance has earned them a place in the Olympic quarter-finals, a historic milestone for Nigerian women’s basketball.
