The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to hold by-elections to fill the vacant seats of four National Assembly members who passed away in 2024.

These by-elections will be scheduled following the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states, set for September 21 and November 16, 2024, respectively.

The vacancies were created by the deaths of four members of the 10th Assembly, which began in June 2023. The deceased members are:

  • Isa Dogonyaro, a member of the All Progressives Congress representing the Garki/Babura Federal Constituency of Jigawa State in the House of Representatives, who died on May 10, 2024, in Abuja.
  • Ekene Adams, a Labour Party member from the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, who passed away on July 16, 2024, at the age of 39.
  • Musiliudeen Akinremi, representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency of Oyo State, who died on July 10, 2024.
    • Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, representing Anambra South, who died in London on June 28, 2024.
  • Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, confirmed that the by-elections to fill these seats will most likely be conducted after the Edo and Ondo governorship elections.
