President Mohammadu Buhari has appointed AIG Abubakar Adamu Mohammed as the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) sources have confirmed to WIRED Nigeria.
Adamu, the new IGP replaces Ibrahim Idris, who has attained the statutory retirement of 60 in the force.
Sources told WIRED Nigeria that the appointment will be made official shortly.
Until his appointment, he was the head of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).
AIG Adamu, who hails from Nasarawa state, has has served with the United Nations and INTERPOL.
He was also a former Deputy Commissioner of Police(DCP) in Ekiti State.
The appointment of AIG Adamu Muhammad is coming after a long political battle between the presidency and the opposition political parties over the retirement of Mr Ibrahim Idris.
