Ambode, who has been largely absent from public events and political functions since leaving office in 2019, has been rumored to be at odds with Tinubu and other party leaders. However, Monday’s meeting suggests a possible reconciliation within the All Progressives Congress (APC) family in Lagos.
In a rare display of unity, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his predecessor, Akinwunmi Ambode, met at the Lagos House on Monday to discuss the future of the state.
The meeting, which was described as a “courtesy visit” by Sanwo-Olu, marked a significant shift in the relationship between the two leaders, who had been at odds since Ambode’s loss in the 2019 governorship primary.
Sanwo-Olu, in a social media post, expressed his delight at the meeting, saying: “Our conversation centred around the future of Lagos and building on the solid foundation already in place. I value his perspective as we all work together to ensure that Lagos remains on the path of growth and development.”
This meeting comes over a year after the two governors last met publicly at a reception in honor of President Bola Tinubu in June 2023.
Ambode, who has been largely absent from public events and political functions since leaving office in 2019, has been rumored to be at odds with Tinubu and other party leaders. However, Monday’s meeting suggests a possible reconciliation within the All Progressives Congress (APC) family in Lagos.
The meeting has sparked hopes of a new era of cooperation and unity among Lagos leaders, with many seeing it as a positive step towards building a stronger future for the state.
