Former Super Eagles coach, José Peseiro, has expressed his belief that Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman possesses greater technical ability than his national team teammate, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

Peseiro, who guided Nigeria to a second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, shared his insights on the two players while addressing recent transfer speculations linking them to Arsenal.

Speaking to SportItalia via Football London, Peseiro praised Lookman’s development under Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini, noting that the winger has become more creative and goal-oriented. “Ademola is more technical than Osimhen, more inclined to create the game, and he is now also scoring. He is performing very well this year,” Peseiro remarked. “He grew up with Gasperini; now he is always playing, and we are happy with him. High level, he too can aspire to do great things.”

Peseiro also commented on the transformation of Italian football, highlighting how clubs like Atalanta and Napoli have embraced a more attacking style of play, which has benefited both Lookman and Osimhen. “It’s no coincidence that they’ve both grown this year. This is because they’re both within a good system of play. Atalanta and Napoli want the ball; they want to play and attack. In these conditions, players get excited like this,” he added.

Recent reports suggest that Arsenal are preparing a £42.5 million offer, plus defender Jakub Kiwior, in an attempt to lure Lookman from Atalanta. Despite Lookman’s reported agreement on personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal could still make a move to secure the winger, possibly on a loan deal with an option to buy.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are also rumored to be back in the race to sign Osimhen, though it remains unclear whether the Serie A winner will join the Gunners or their London rivals, Chelsea, who are reportedly in talks with Napoli to finalize a deal.
