NDLEA Cracks Down on Drug Trafficking: Major Arrests and Seizures Across Nigeria
Abuja, Nigeria – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant strides in its fight against drug trafficking with a series of high-profile arrests and seizures across Nigeria.
Businessman Nabbed at Lagos Airport After Swallowing 68 Cocaine Wraps
On August 8, 2024, NDLEA operatives arrested Ibeanusi Solomon Nosike, a 36-year-old businessman from Onitsha, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. Nosike had swallowed 68 wraps of cocaine, which he excreted over 12 days while under observation. He was apprehended while attempting to board a flight to Abuja en route to Vietnam.
Second Drug Smuggler Caught at Abuja Airport
On August 12, 2024, Paul Okwuy Mbadugha, 54, was arrested at Abuja Airport while attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight to Hanoi via Doha. Mbadugha, who had ingested cocaine, excreted 88 wraps of the drug after four days under observation.
Cannabis Shipment to Dubai Seized; Suspect Arrested
On August 17, 2024, Aligbo Chukwudi Jacob, another Onitsha-based businessman, was arrested after a consignment of 1.20kg of cannabis destined for Dubai was intercepted at Lagos airport. Jacob was later apprehended in Onitsha following a detailed investigation.
Five Female Drug Traffickers Busted at Seme Border
On August 21, 2024, NDLEA operatives arrested five female drug traffickers at the Seme border. The syndicate, led by 42-year-old Olaribigbe Bashirat Feyisara, was caught with 14 packs of Loud cannabis, weighing 6.97kg.
Massive Codeine Seizure at Tincan Seaport
On August 23, 2024, NDLEA operatives at Tincan Seaport in Lagos intercepted two containers from India, containing 1,596 cartons of codeine-based syrup valued at over N2.23 billion.
Drug Busts Across Nigeria: From Benin to Ibadan
In Benin City, Martha Owotorofa, 26, was arrested with Canadian Loud, while Odion Uzordinma, 21, was caught with drug-laced cookies and cakes. In Lagos, Godwill Davidson was apprehended with 3,834 bottles of codeine syrup, among other drugs. In Ibadan, Feranmi Bankole and Fredrick Tobiloba were arrested with 267.5 liters of skuchies and 18 grams of Canadian Loud.
NDLEA’s Ongoing War Against Drug Abuse
The NDLEA continues its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) with educational and advocacy efforts across schools and communities. Recent activities include lectures at schools in Adamawa and Kaduna, and a visit to Chrisland University in Ogun State.
NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) commended the agency’s officers for their successful operations and urged continued vigilance in the fight against drug abuse.
