Megalife Sciences Develops App to Cure Diabetes
Speaking at the event, Dr. Binu Joy, Chief Executive Officer of Health@Home, Megalife Sciences Digital Division, emphasized the revolutionary impact of the application in transforming diabetes care across Nigeria and the African continent.

Abeokuta, Nigeria — Megalife Sciences, a prominent health and wellness company, has unveiled its new digital tool, the ‘We Care Diabetes’ application, aimed at providing real-time and advanced medical care for the increasing number of diabetes patients in Nigeria.

The launch took place during the 45th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the Endocrine and Metabolism Society of Nigeria, held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Binu Joy, Chief Executive Officer of Health@Home, Megalife Sciences Digital Division, emphasized the revolutionary impact of the application in transforming diabetes care across Nigeria and the African continent. According to Dr. Joy, the app leverages digital technology to bridge the gap between patients and healthcare providers, making diabetes management more efficient and accessible.

“Just as technology has transformed sectors like education, finance, and entertainment, the health sector is also experiencing a digital evolution. Especially in managing chronic diseases like diabetes, where patients need to connect with their doctors frequently, digital tools are vital. The ‘We Care Diabetes’ app empowers patients to take charge of their health, helping them better understand and manage their condition,” Dr. Joy explained.

He noted that the app offers patients a comprehensive platform to access relevant information about their health, monitor their condition, and communicate with healthcare professionals seamlessly. This approach, he said, is particularly beneficial in contexts where limited digital literacy and data constraints pose significant challenges.

Prof. Michael Olamoyegun, a Consultant Endocrinologist at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, also lauded the app’s potential to extend diabetes care to underserved populations. “Patients can use the app to profile their medical information and upload blood sugar readings. If they have questions, they can reach out to their doctors or health coaches and receive timely feedback. This digital interaction ensures privacy and security of patient data while expanding the reach of specialist care,” Prof. Olamoyegun stated.

The app’s functionalities include the ability for patients to track their glucometer readings, access health coaches, and maintain all health records in one location, significantly streamlining the management of diabetes.

Ibukun Adetuyi, Head of Digital Marketing at Megalife Sciences, highlighted the complexity of diabetes management, which often involves multiple stakeholders such as family members, caregivers, and various healthcare providers. She pointed out that the ‘We Care Diabetes’ app simplifies this process by offering an integrated platform where all parties can collaborate more effectively.

“By centralizing all health data, including test results and glucose readings, on a single platform, the app reduces the fragmented nature of diabetes care. Patients can connect their glucometer via Bluetooth and get a holistic view of their health status. We believe this tool will significantly ease the burden of diabetes management and improve outcomes,” Adetuyi said.
