In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing fight against terrorism in the Lake Chad region, a notorious Boko Haram terrorist identified as Bochu Abacha has surrendered to the troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Information Officer of the MNJTF, Bochu is a key figure in several terrorist operations and has confessed to participating in multiple Boko Haram/ISWAP operations along the Mongunu-Baga axis. The terrorist surrendered due to the intense operation of the MNJTF and lack of interest in continuing his militant activities.

Bochu escaped from a Boko Haram camp in Mussaram with his weapon, which was recovered along with other items including an AK 47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 11 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, a mobile phone, an Airtel SIM card, and a sum of N32,500. He is currently providing valuable intelligence to the authorities.

In another development, troops deployed in Gubio, in conjunction with intelligence operatives, successfully ambushed Boko Haram terrorists conveying a large logistics supply in three Toyota vehicles under the cover of darkness. The troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, resulting in the killing of one terrorist and others fleeing into the nearby forest due to superior firepower. The troops recovered three Toyota vehicles loaded with assorted foodstuffs, sundry items, and a sum of N2,000.

The surrender of Bochu Abacha and the successful ambush operation by the MNJTF troops are significant developments in the ongoing battle against terrorism in the Lake Chad region. The successes demonstrate the effectiveness of the joint task force’s operations and its ability to disrupt and dismantle terrorist networks.
