Organizer Alleges Secret Compensation After EndSARS Protests, Rejects Personal Payment from Lagos Government

In a shocking revelation, Serah Ibrahim, one of the EndSARS organizers, has disclosed that the Lagos State Government, under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, quietly provided N100 million as compensation for victims of the EndSARS protests. EndSARS, a youth-led movement against police brutality, gained national attention in October 2020 but was violently dispersed by security forces, leading to multiple deaths and injuries.

Despite the government’s public denial of any responsibility for the deaths, Ibrahim claims that the N100 million payment was an attempt to apologize for the tragic events at the Lekki Toll Gate and to make amends.

In a series of statements, Ibrahim explained that after months of refusing meetings, she finally attended discussions with government officials, accompanied by Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) Femi Falana and SAN Fusika. According to her, one of Sanwo-Olu’s commissioners expressed deep regret for what happened, framing the compensation as an effort to bring closure and cover the expenses incurred by victims.

“I kept the information to myself for months, but eventually, word got out to other victims, and they began pressuring me to accept the money because of their suffering,” Ibrahim said.

Ibrahim also revealed that although the government offered her personal compensation, she refused, instead asking that the funds be used for prosthetics and medical treatment for amputees from the protest.

“To their credit, they did provide prosthetics and medical care for those in need, but that doesn’t erase what happened on October 20th, 2020,” she added.
