Abuja, Nigeria — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unveiled plans for a 30-day national youth conference aimed at addressing pressing issues such as unemployment, social justice, education, and other challenges facing Nigerian youth.

The President announced the initiative during his address at the State House as part of the celebration marking Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary. He emphasized that the youth, who constitute over 60 percent of the country’s population, will play a critical role in shaping the agenda and outcomes of the conference.

According to President Tinubu, youth representatives will be consulted on the modalities and the selection of delegates to ensure inclusive participation. He stated that the conference will serve as a platform to discuss solutions to issues such as employment, innovation, security, and social justice.

“I am pleased to announce the gathering of a National Youth Conference. This conference will be a platform to address the diverse challenges and opportunities confronting our young people, who constitute more than 60 percent of our population. It will provoke meaningful dialogue and empower our young people to participate actively in nation-building,” Tinubu said. “By ensuring that their voices are heard in shaping the policies that impact their lives, we are creating a pathway for a brighter tomorrow.”

The President further noted that the outcomes and recommendations from the conference will be carefully considered and implemented by the government as part of its commitment to fostering a more inclusive, prosperous, and united Nigeria.

Highlighting his administration’s ongoing efforts to support the youth, Tinubu cited the “3 million Technical Talents Programme (3MTT)” by the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy. The programme aims to build a robust technical talent pool in Nigeria to enhance the nation’s capacity for innovation and development.

The proposed 30-day national youth conference is expected to unite young people from across the country, providing them with a unique platform to voice their concerns and propose actionable solutions to the challenges they face.

The administration has pledged to ensure that youth aspirations remain at the core of the conference deliberations and that actionable recommendations are translated into concrete policies to benefit the nation’s youth.
