Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian Police have detained popular singer and content creator, Darlington Okoye, also known as Speed Darlington, over allegations of cyberstalking fellow musician Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy.

The detention follows a petition allegedly filed by Burna Boy, accusing Darlington of misconduct online.

According to SaharaReporters, Darlington was apprehended last Friday in Lagos before being transferred to the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) detention center in Guzape, Abuja. Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, visited Darlington and confirmed his detention, stating that he had reviewed the petition against the musician.

“I have met Speed Darlington and he’s in good spirits. We are working to get him released on bail as soon as possible,” Adeyanju said. He further explained that while the police refused to provide a copy of the petition, they allowed him to read its content. Adeyanju noted that he found no substantial grounds in the petition to justify the musician’s arrest.

Speed Darlington’s mother, known as Queen, had earlier raised concerns over her son’s disappearance. She accused Burna Boy and his team of being responsible for his arrest. In a heartfelt video plea, Queen claimed that her son’s gateman informed her that Speed Darlington was taken by Burna Boy and his team.

“Nigerians, please help me. My son Speed Darlington has been missing for over four days now, after he made a video about Burna Boy and Diddy. Burna Boy came to his house with his squad and police, and they arrested him. Please, Nigerians, Akpi is my only son, help me and beg Burna Boy to release my son,” she pleaded.

Adeyanju has assured that legal measures are being taken to secure the musician’s release on bail as soon as possible.
