In a recent interview with CBS’s 60 Minutes, U.S. Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris made a firm statement on her stance regarding peace talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Harris emphasized that she would not engage in bilateral negotiations with Putin unless Ukraine is represented at the table, underscoring her commitment to ensuring Ukraine’s sovereignty in any peace discussions.
Harris stated,
“Not bilaterally without Ukraine, no. Ukraine must have a say in the future of Ukraine.”
This declaration aligns with the Biden administration’s position of rejecting any direct talks with Putin, especially given the ongoing conflict that began with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
The vice president’s comments come at a critical time as the war in Ukraine enters its second year, with no clear resolution in sight.

“Donald Trump, if he were president, Putin would be sitting in Kyiv right now. He talks about, ‘Oh, he can end it on day one.’ You know what that is? It’s about surrender,” Harris said.
As president, Trump questioned the extent of U.S. involvement in Ukraine and appeared sympathetic to Russia’s position, a stance that has worried European leaders and Ukrainian officials alike.
Harris also addressed the sensitive issue of Ukraine’s bid to join NATO, a military alliance that has been a point of contention between Russia and the West.
