Notorious Terrorist Kingpin, Mai Hijabi Eliminated in Jigawa State, Defence Headquarters Reports
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced the successful elimination of a notorious terrorist leader known as Mai Hijabi during a military operation in Jigawa State conducted this past week. This operation forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the operational strengths of terrorist factions in Northern Nigeria.
During a press conference, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, provided an overview of recent military actions, revealing that a total of 165 insurgents were neutralized, and 238 individuals were apprehended as part of these operations.
“Our military initiatives have significantly weakened the combat effectiveness of various terror groups and their leadership,” Buba stated. “For example, the infamous terrorist commander Mai Hijabi was taken out of the equation this week. Our troops are making outstanding progress across all areas of operation.”
In addition to combating terrorism, the military also reported the capture of 35 individuals suspected of engaging in oil theft in the southern region. The estimated value of the seized oil amounted to approximately N688,125,150.00.
In the Niger Delta, military forces uncovered and destroyed two underground storage pits, 58 boats, and 39 storage tanks. Other seized items included 13 cooking ovens, 35 drums, one motorcycle, one tricycle, four speed boats, 13 vehicles, and 65 illegal refining sites. Troops also recovered a staggering 789,200 litres of stolen crude oil and 64,950 litres of illicitly refined Automated Gas Oil (AGO).
Buba noted that security forces additionally recovered 153 different types of weapons and 2,182 rounds of ammunition. Among the arsenal were 81 AK47 rifles, 23 fabricated rifles, 27 Dane guns, 13 pump-action shotguns, five homemade pistols, three revolver pistols, as well as various types of ammunition and military equipment.
Additional recoveries included 19 vehicles, 21 motorcycles, 45 mobile phones, and N64,100.00 in cash, alongside other assorted items.
The DHQ’s update underscores its commitment to intensify operations to ensure peace and security across the region.
