Senator Ali Ndume urges President Bola Tinubu to take urgent action as Nigerians grapple with worsening economic challenges.
Borno South senator, Ali Ndume, has raised concerns about the increasing hardship faced by Nigerians, attributing it to poor advice given to President Bola Tinubu by his inner circle. According to Ndume, these advisers are misleading the president, contributing to the growing frustration and anger among citizens.
In his remarks, Ndume called for swift intervention from the president, emphasizing that Tinubu must resist bad advice and take action to alleviate the suffering of the Nigerian people.
“I personally believe President Bola Ahmed Tinubu means well for Nigeria and Nigerians. I know this because I know what he stands for. But some of his advisers who don’t mean well for the people of this country give him wrong advice,” Ndume said.
Senator Ndume’s criticism comes amid growing public discontent over the state of the economy, as the prices of essential commodities soar, and the cost of transportation continues to escalate.
He pointed to the hardships faced by farmers in Borno, who are struggling to transport their goods due to high fuel prices and inflation. “The hardship these people are inflicting on Nigerians is becoming unbearable. I’m currently in Borno, and I know what I’m talking about. People are really suffering, hungry, frustrated and angry,” Ndume stated.
The economic strain has affected families across Nigeria, with many now unable to afford basic necessities. The senator, who was previously suspended by the Senate leadership in July for criticizing Tinubu, called on the president to reassess the advice he is receiving and take immediate steps to reduce the economic pressure on Nigerians.
“In Borno State here, many families can’t even feed anymore. The untold hardship of these frequent increases in the prices is unimaginable,” he remarked.
According to Ndume, the cost of living has risen to such a degree that it is now almost impossible for average Nigerians to afford long-distance travel. “People can’t travel anymore. To travel by road from Abuja to Maiduguri, for instance, is a fortune. How many of our people can afford that?” he asked.
He noted that farmers, who are the backbone of food production in the country, have been severely affected by the rising cost of fuel and transport, which has pushed food prices even higher. “Farmers can not even move their farm products anymore because of the high cost of transportation. Those who can still do this add the cost of transportation to the prices of food items they sell, and that’s why many people can’t feed again,” he explained.
“I know that President Tinubu means well for Nigerians, and therefore he should not stay back and allow a few bad advisers to destroy this country. That’s why I’m begging him to do something before it is too late. It is not good to test the patience of Nigerians, and that’s exactly what these bad advisers are doing,” Ndume added.
As Nigerians await President Tinubu’s next move, the pressure to address the economic challenges grows.
