The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially delisted the Group D second-leg fixture between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Libya’s Mediterranean Knights in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Originally scheduled to take place in Libya at 8 PM, the match was to follow the first-leg encounter held at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo last Friday, where the Super Eagles secured a last-minute 1-0 victory over the Libyan side.
Controversy, however, has clouded the return fixture after Super Eagles players and officials reported a harrowing 14-hour ordeal at the airport in Libya, prompting the team to return to Nigeria without playing the game.
CAF has announced that it is investigating the incident, following allegations of sabotage from the Libyan Football Federation, which has threatened legal action against Nigeria. The African football body also excluded the Libya vs Nigeria fixture from its list of scheduled games for Tuesday, as posted on its X (formerly Twitter) handle.
