Tragic Ritual Claims Life of Onitsha Businessman

Enugu State – In a sorrowful incident, Chikwado Eze, a businessman from Onitsha, lost his life during a ritual in the Inyi community of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area in Enugu State. Eze, hailing from the Ugbaike community, had recently obtained a visa for a business trip abroad and sought the services of a traditional healer for spiritual protection before his travels.

The native doctor prescribed a ritual involving Eze being buried alive for a duration of one and a half hours as a means of fortification. On the day of the ceremony, Eze, along with his father, Uwakwe, was interred in a grave for the allotted time.

Upon being exhumed, however, Eze was found to be weak and soaked in sweat, rather than empowered as intended. Attempts by the native doctor to revive him through incantations proved fruitless. Eze was quickly transported to a local hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead.

Following the incident, both Uwakwe and the native doctor have been taken into custody by law enforcement for questioning. Uwakwe, who had previously faced ostracism in the Ugbaike community due to his involvement with dangerous charms, denied any coercion regarding the ritual, asserting that his son had made all the necessary arrangements ahead of time.
