President Moves to Cut Government Spending, Limits Official Convoys and Security Details for Top Officials

In a decisive move to curb government spending, President Bola Tinubu has restricted Federal Ministers, Ministers of State, and Heads of Agencies to a maximum of three official vehicles in their convoys. This directive, personally signed by the President, is part of his broader strategy to streamline government operations and reduce excessive costs.

Additionally, Tinubu has capped the number of security personnel for these officials at five—four police officers and one from the Department of State Services (DSS).

The Vice President’s entourage has also been scaled back, with no more than five officials permitted for foreign trips and 15 for local trips.

“The security detail must not exceed five personnel, and no additional officers will be attached beyond this limit,”

the President’s statement emphasized. The National Security Adviser has been tasked with consulting military and paramilitary agencies to enforce similar reductions in their convoys.

This move follows earlier cost-saving initiatives by President Tinubu, including shrinking his own travel entourage. Foreign delegations have been reduced from 50 to 20 officials, while local trips are now limited to 25.

Affected officials are expected to comply immediately, highlighting the urgency of these measures.
