Ebonyi State – Tragedy struck on the Abakaliki-Enugu expressway as a commercial bus traveling from Enugu burst into flames after a collision, claiming at least five lives and injuring seven others.
The accident occurred in the early hours at the G-Hostel area along the expressway. According to Joshua Ukandu, the State Police Public Relations Officer, the bus, fully loaded with passengers, hit an obstacle and subsequently ignited.
The injured passengers have been taken to the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki, where they are receiving medical attention. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been moved to the mortuary.
Ukandu confirmed that investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing. He extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and expressed hopes for the quick recovery of those injured.
