When Anger Ignites: Tragic End for Man Following Family Dispute
Ebonyi state – A tragic incident unfolded in Ndiechi Igbeagu, Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, where a 32-year-old man, Onyiuke Nwedeogu, lost his life after setting himself and his residence on fire following a domestic dispute with his wife, Felicia Nwedeogu.
Sources indicate that the conflict erupted on Sunday morning, leading to an altercation during which Onyiuke purportedly assaulted his wife. Following the confrontation, he collected his belongings and went to the family’s provision shop, where he ignited a fire, ultimately turning it upon himself. He succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital (AE-FETHA) on Wednesday.
Reports reveal that ongoing disagreements between the couple had persisted for an extended period, prompting unsuccessful interventions from both families. In a chilling turn of events prior to the fatal incident, Onyiuke allegedly removed window protectors from the home where Felicia and their three daughters were sleeping, using fuel to ignite a fire in an apparent attempt to harm them. Fortunately, vigilant neighbors managed to rescue Felicia and the children before any significant harm occurred.
Under the belief that his intentions had been fulfilled, Onyiuke drove away in his bus to the shop, where the devastating act of self-immolation took place. DSP Joshua Ukandu, the Public Relations Officer for the Ebonyi State Police, stated that a formal report regarding the incident had yet to be received at the time of this writing.
The remains of Onyiuke Nwedeogu have been taken to the morgue at AE-FETHA, and authorities are expected to launch an investigation into this unfortunate event.
