Dangote Refinery Begins Supplying Petroleum to West African Countries
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has officially commenced the export of petroleum products to various countries in West Africa. Recent reports from Bloomberg, utilizing data from Vortexa, Kpler, Precise Intelligence, and various ship-tracking platforms, confirmed this development.
Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, the chairman of the Ghana National Petroleum Authority, recently indicated that Ghana is exploring the possibility of sourcing petroleum products from the Dangote refinery.
Speaking at the OTL Africa Downstream Oil Conference held in Lagos, Abdul-Hamid stated, “If the refinery achieves its goal of processing 650,000 barrels per day (bpd), it’s unlikely that Nigeria will be able to consume all of that output. Therefore, rather than continuing to import petroleum from Rotterdam, it would be more efficient for us to source it from Nigeria, which we believe could lead to reduced prices for consumers.”
This move marks a significant step in regional energy cooperation, potentially benefitting both Nigeria and its neighboring countries.
