Change of Name Not Required for Married Female Corps Members Seeking Redeployment, NYSC Announces
ABUJA – The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has made a significant policy update regarding the redeployment of married female corps members. In a recently issued circular, signed by Director of Corps Mobilisation, Abubakar Mohammed, it was announced that changing one’s name after marriage will no longer be a prerequisite for those seeking redeployment.
The circular, dated November 25, 2024, is titled “Review of criteria for concessional deployment/relocation for married female corps members” and outlines the new guidelines approved by the NYSC management. It instructs state coordinators to communicate that “Changing a maiden name to that of a spouse is no longer a requirement for the approval of such request by married female corps members.”
While this change offers more flexibility for married corps members, the policy notes that all other existing requirements will remain unchanged. Furthermore, state and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) coordinators have been directed to ensure strict adherence to these new guidelines, with area office directors responsible for overseeing the implementation process.
