Lara Trump Resigns as RNC Co-Chair, Sparks Senate Seat Speculations
Lara Trump announces her resignation as RNC co-chair, highlighting her accomplishments in fundraising and election integrity efforts. Her decision intensifies speculation about a potential Senate appointment to replace Marco Rubio, who is set to join President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet as Secretary of State.

Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of President-elect Donald Trump, announced on Sunday night that she will step down as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC). Her resignation comes amidst growing speculation that she could be considered to fill an upcoming Senate vacancy.

Trump, who took on the role in March with her father-in-law’s support, shared on X (formerly Twitter) that she plans to step down at the RNC’s next meeting after achieving three key organizational goals.

“At the RNC, we had three distinct goals: 1) surpass all fundraising records, 2) build the largest army of lawyers and poll watchers to ensure election integrity, and 3) turn out millions of Americans and low-propensity voters during early voting. We accomplished all three,”

she posted.

The RNC has yet to comment on her decision.

Possible Senate Appointment?

Lara Trump is rumored to be a potential replacement for Republican Senator Marco Rubio of Florida. Rubio is expected to vacate his Senate seat following his nomination by the president-elect as Secretary of State.

While Lara Trump has not ruled out the possibility, she told Fox News last month,

“If I am tapped to serve in another capacity, it truly would be my honor. I have not been asked yet, but I certainly would strongly consider it if it is presented to me.”

The decision ultimately rests with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who will appoint Rubio’s replacement. DeSantis, a former presidential rival of Donald Trump, is reportedly also being considered for a role in Trump’s cabinet.

Defense Secretary Pick in Jeopardy

Meanwhile, the nomination of Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense is facing backlash. Allegations of misconduct, including reports of heavy drinking and mistreatment of women, have caused up to six GOP senators to waver in their support.

Hegseth, who denies any wrongdoing, has vowed not to withdraw. He reached an undisclosed settlement with a woman who accused him of sexual assault, which he claims was a consensual encounter.

Sources reveal that Donald Trump has discussed the issue with DeSantis directly, indicating a preference for resolving the growing controversy.

As the political drama unfolds, Lara Trump’s next move could prove pivotal for the Republican Party and the Senate landscape.
