Benin City, Nigeria – Proceedings at the Edo State High Court in Benin were disrupted on Monday as thugs attacked attendees at the pre-hearing session on the disputed September 21 governorship election results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Supporters of seven political parties challenging the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) victory were targeted with projectiles by unidentified assailants outside the courtroom.

Security forces responded by barricading the court entrance and setting up roadblocks along nearby routes to restore order.
