Jay-Z Challenges Anonymous Allegations in High-Profile Lawsuit, Accuses Plaintiff’s Attorney of Extortion and Vows to Fight for His Reputation
Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter is pushing back against explosive allegations that he and Sean “Diddy” Combs raped a 13-year-old girl following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. In a motion filed Monday, Carter requested the court either dismiss the suit or require the plaintiff to reveal her identity.
The lawsuit, filed Sunday by Texas attorney Tony Buzbee, accuses Carter and Combs of assaulting the then-teenager at an after-party. According to the amended civil complaint, the alleged victim was brought to the party by a limousine driver before the incident occurred.
In his filing, Jay-Z alleged that Buzbee attempted to extort him before taking the case public.
“My lawyer received a blackmail attempt… what he had calculated was that public scrutiny would make me want to settle. No sir, it had the opposite effect,” Carter stated.
Anonymous Accusation Sparks Legal Challenge
Originally filed in October as one of several anonymous lawsuits, this case stands out because the judge allowed the plaintiff to remain unnamed, citing sufficient cause. In previous similar cases, anonymity resulted in dismissals.
Jay-Z was identified in the complaint as “Celebrity A,” with allegations that he and Combs took turns assaulting the plaintiff while another celebrity stood by. Carter’s motion questioned why the lawsuit is civil rather than criminal, stating,
“Whoever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?”
Carter Addresses Impact on His Family
Carter expressed deep concern for his family amid the public scrutiny.
“My only heartbreak is for my family. My wife and I will have to sit our children down… and explain the cruelty and greed of people,”
he wrote in his response.
Attorney Buzbee Defends Case Amid Criticism
Buzbee defended his approach, stating, “The pleading speaks for itself. This is a very serious matter that will be litigated in court.” He also posted on Instagram, vowing not to be “bullied or intimidated.” Without directly naming Jay-Z or Diddy, Buzbee wrote, “Sunlight is the best disinfectant, and I am quite certain the sun is coming.”
Combs’ Team Dismisses Allegations as ‘Publicity Stunt’
Combs’ legal representatives also rejected the claims, calling the lawsuit a “shameless publicity stunt.” They maintained that Combs “never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone… In court, the truth will prevail.”
As the high-profile case unfolds, both Jay-Z and Diddy continue to deny the allegations, insisting they will fight to clear their names in court.
